Barrie Police warn of phone scam involving your social insurance number
Best advice: Keep personal info to yourself
Did you get a call this week…someone asking about your Social Insurance Number (SIN)?
Barrie Police say they’ve heard from many residents this week who received a call from someone suggesting their SIN had been used in an identity fraud and asking for verification of the number, as well as for other personal information.
One number that may be associated to this scam is 1-807-726-7893. When tried, it comes back as a cellular number that is not assigned. Simple advice – if you don’t recognize the phone number, #BarriePolice are asking the public to not answer the call. @canantifraud @Barrie360

Police caution against providing any personal information over the phone, at any time, and recommend you just hang up on the caller.
