Barrie’s Jobless Rate Creeps Up Slightly
City's Unemployment Remains Lower Than Provincial, Federal Average
Barrie’s jobless rate is up slightly, while the amount of people in the labour market didn’t really move much.
Statistics Canada says the City’s unemployment rate rose just a smidge from December to January, up from a seasonally adjusted 4.9 to 5.1 per cent.
The size of Barrie’s labour force, the number of people willing and able to work, saw modest growth.
Despite the modest rise, Barrie’s jobless rate remains lower than the provincial average of 5.6 (up a tenth of a percentage point from December), or the federal rate of 5.7, which remains unchanged month over month.
