Cleanup Complete After Big Rig Goes Into Severn River

Police, Fire, Ministry of Environment On Scene Following Reports of Diesel Spill

Fire crews were on scene after a transport truck went into the water at Severn Falls.

The call came in around noon Wednesday that a transport truck backed into a boat launch off Doug Smith Drive and got stuck. Along with the Severn Fire Service, the Ontario Provincial Police and Ministry of Environment were on scene. The MOE confirms there was a small grease oil spill in the water, which was contained by the Severn Fire Service.

Reports suggest local residents have fought for years to make sure commercial vehicles do not use the small service road in which this collision took place. A 2013 engineering study says it is not fit for commercial vehicles’ use.
