Close contact continued to be the main cause of COVID-19 transmission throughout Simcoe Muskoka in June

Three new cases of COVID-19 reported in Simcoe County

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reported three new cases of COVID-19 to kick off July. A look back at June indicates close contact remained the main way COVID made its way among area residents.

The three new cases announced on Thursday are made up of two people from New Tecumseth and one from Essa Township. One due to close contact, the other two remain under investigation.

The SMDHU added another four recoveries since its update on Tuesday, there was no update on Canada Day.

A look back through June, at how the virus was likely acquired, shows there were 49 cases attributed to close contact. The SMDHU reported 42 community-acquired cases and 22 in the workplace.

June’s case count shows close contact was the number one way to acquire COVID-19

In May, there were 65 close contact cases and 64 community-acquired ones. At least ten more of each in April. In March, travel-related cases made up the bulk of infections.
