Cupboard’s bare at Barrie Food Bank as Thanksgiving Food Drive begins

Hoping to raise 150 thousand pounds of food

The Barrie Food Bank is hoping to raise 150,000 pounds of food and $100 thousand in cash for this year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive. The food bank says this will help replenish the shelves and finances to meet the demand.

Close to 80,000 pounds of food is distributed each month, and nearly 2,800 people come through the doors each month.

Most Needed Foods: Peanut butter, canned fruit and vegetables, can tuna and luncheon meats, pasta sauce, juice, juice boxes, baby food, diapers size 5 & 6, jam & honey, school snacks, rice, condiments, breakfast cereal, oatmeal, mayonnaise, flour and toiletries.  

Drop Off Points: Any local grocery store including Zehrs, Loblaws, Metro, Sobeys, Food Basics, Freshco, Costco, the Wholesale Club, and No Frills or at the Barrie Food Bank, 42 Anne St, South Unit 2, behind Pioneer Family Pools, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm and Saturday October 12th and 19th from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
