Drugs, handgun seized by police in Penetanguishene

Suspect failed to outrun police

He wasn’t where he was supposed to be.

Ontario Provincial Police say an officer patrolling in the area of Church Street and Burke Street in Penetanguishene early Monday morning recognized a man walking on the sidewalk who was bound by an order to reside in Ajax.

The man noticed he was being watched by the officer and made a run for it. The cop gave chase on foot and cornered the guy between two houses and a fence. Police say the man threw an object from his waistband and after a brief struggle was arrested.

Police say a quantity of methamphetamine and cocaine was found on the person during a search. While checking the area for the discarded item, officers found a loaded handgun.
