SUMMARY:Public Art Installation Reception
DESCRIPTION:The library is proud to unveil  Flight of the Knowledge Keepers  by Annwin\, winner of a call for proposals for a public art installation by an Indigenous artist. Her artwork reflects "the cyclical journey of learning\, oral traditions\, and knowledge sharing among community\, family\, and friends — carried from within and out into the world on the wings of each individual journey of flight through life." Rooted in the history of Bradford West Gwillimbury as the beginning of the Carrying Place Trail\, Annwin's piece invites reflection on knowledge\, freedom\, and the ways information brings us together while celebrating our diversity. \nSupported by Experience Simcoe County and the Friends of the Library\, Annwin’s proposal was selected by an Indigenous-led steering committee made up of BWG community members and representatives from the Library and STEPS Public Art.

SUMMARY:2025 HTH Charity Golf Tournament
DESCRIPTION:HTH is an intersectional feminist organization in Simcoe County\, working to end all violence against all women. The organization began in 1984 as an emergency shelter and over the past forty years\, HTH has significantly expanded and now provides wrap-around service to women who have experienced violence\, serving over 1000 unique women annually\, and nearly 200 children. HTH is the largest VAW organization providing wrap-around services to women who have experienced violence in Simcoe County. In 2017\, we expanded our mission with Operation Grow\, a dynamic social enterprise based in Midland\, Ontario. Operation Grow provides women with the resources\, training\, and entrepreneurial opportunities to enhance their financial independence while improving their access to nutritious food. This pivotal initiative serves as the foundation for the 2025 HTH event\, showcasing the incredible achievements of women-owned businesses across Simcoe County.   \nThe HTH Golf Tournament at The Nest Golf Club at Friday Harbour Resort is not just a day of exceptional golf—it's an opportunity to make a meaningful impact. Hosted by Huronia Transition Homes (HTH)\, this four-person scramble tournament combines the thrill of competitive golf with the mission of ending violence against women and children.   \nSet amidst the stunning backdrop of Lake Simcoe\, The Nest offers a challenging\, yet scenic course designed to inspire golfers of all skill levels. With lush fairways\, water features\, and signature holes\, it's the perfect venue for a day spent with friends\, family\, and business colleagues\, all while supporting a critical cause. This event will bring together a community of supporters united in their commitment to creating a safer and more equitable world for women and children.  \nThe funds raised during the tournament directly support Huronia Transition Homes' vital programs and the hundreds of women and children who access them each year. HTH supports women at every point of their journey\, from safe shelter and housing supports to apprenticeship training and employment. Beyond service provision\, HTH works to cultivate strong connections with community partners\, so your sponsorship will ensure the growth and development of those relationships that in turn directly support the women and children we support.  \nThis year’s event is made possible through the generous sponsorship of local women-owned and Canadian businesses. We aim to provide experiences and opportunities for participants to explore and enjoy what our beautiful country has to offer. From our sponsorships to our auction items\, we've partnered with Canadian businesses to show the power of local communities coming together to make a difference - just like HTH has done for more than 40 years.  \n

SUMMARY:Candlelighters Simcoe Superhero Stomp
DESCRIPTION:All children need a hero in their life. For children diagnosed with cancer\, they become a superhero! \nOn September 20th\, caped crusaders and masked heroes will take over Barrie’s Waterfront. People will come from near and far\, uniting together for a common cause - to celebrate the Superhero that lies within those children fighting cancer – the worst of all villains. All proceeds will be used to support local families in their cancer battle. \nJoin us for an event filled with zany fun and magical moments. Face painting\, music\, coloring\, tattoos and so much more begin at 1015am. \nEach and every day we encounter Superheroes… the police who protect our communities\, the firefighters that fight fires\, and the paramedics\, nurses and doctors who save lives. But it’s the littlest Superheroes – infants\, toddlers\, children and teens - who because of a cancer diagnosis had no choice but to become a Superhero that is the most inspiring. We witness children find unimaginable strength to fight the battle of a lifetime. The Superhero Stomp is to celebrate those who have won the battle\, to support and cheer on those currently undergoing treatment\, and to remember those who have been taken away from us too early. \nWhether it is your favourite character or one you created\, heroes of all ages\, abilities and creativity are welcome. Grab your superhero cape and mask\, pull on your spandex tights\, and join us for our 5k Run/Walk to support Candlelighters Simcoe\, whose mission is to empower families on their childhood cancer journey lighting the way by providing hope\, support and education.
