Girl under age ten among the three new cases of COVID-19 announced in Simcoe County Tuesday afternoon

Outbreak declared at Creemore long-term care home

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirmed three new cases of COVID-19 in our region, and declared an outbreak at a long-term care home in Creemore.

The outbreak was declared at Creedan Valley Care Community in Creemore, while the health unit reports it is investigating a respiratory infection reported at Oak Terrace in Orillia. A previously declared outbreak at Owen Hill Care Community in Barrie continues.

A Barrie girl under the age of 10 was among the new cases announced Tuesday, along with a woman in her 50s, also from Barrie. A man in his 20s from Bradford-West Gwillimbury represents the third new case.

The SMDHU also announced on Tuesday another four recoveries from COVID-19; all told 422 people across Simcoe and Muskoka have recovered from the disease to date, which represents 84 percent of all cases.

No deaths were reported in Tuesday’s update; the region has not lost any lives to COVID-19 since May 20.

The health unit is also investigating an outbreak of COVID-19 at a farm in Simcoe County. Three individuals have tested positive for the virus. The three live outside Simcoe County and would not be part of the statistics.

As well, the health unit is probing a cluster of cases at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie. Simcoe Muskoka Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner said this involves three staff members. He said the health unit is referring to this as a cluster rather than an outbreak because it is not clear whether the transmission happened on site at work or other contacts in their life. He did emphasize the cluster is in a part of the hospital where there is no contact with patients.
