No foul play suspected in the death of a man found in Meaford.
The case, which dates back to November 2011, took eight years to identify the human remains, which were initially found by police in November 2017 on the shoreline of Georgian Beach Road North.
DNA from the human remains were confirmed to be a match in May of this year to 65 year old John Patterson, who was reported missing.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
- November 2011 – Grey County OPP officers received a complaint of a missing 65 years old man John Patterson who was believed to be in the Meaford area. A van belonging to the missing male was located by OPP officers in the area of Kiowana Beach
- November 2017 – Grey County OPP received a report of human remains found on the shoreline of Georgian Beach Road North
- November 2017 – Confirmation that the found remains was a human foot
- May 2019 – Through analysis by the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS), the DNA from the human remains matched the DNA of John Patterson
