Second suspect arrested in kidnapping of Markham man

Police also say a ransom demand was made

York Regional Police say they have made a second arrest in the kidnapping of a 22-year-old Markham student. A 33-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Brampton. Two suspects remain at large.

Police have also indicated a ransom demand was made shortly before the victim showed up on the doorstep of a Gravenhurst home.

York Regional Police say a 37-year-old man wanted in the kidnapping of a Markham student two weekends ago has turned himself in.

A Canada-wide warrant had been issued for his arrest on on charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault and assault with a weapon.

Three others remain at large.

March 27

Knock on the door last night at a residence on Doe Lake Road in Gravenhurst…a man asking for help.

Turned out to be Wanzhen Lu, the 22-year-old student allegedly abducted last weekend in the underground garage of a condo in Markham. It’s unclear if he escaped his captors or was released.

He has been treated at hospital for minor injuries.

York Regional Police have yet to talk with him about his ordeal.

Four suspects remain outstanding in the matter.

A 35-year-old Toronto man, arrested this week, has been released without being charged.
