Man In Hospital After Flying Tire Hits Vehicle On 400

Victim airlifted to a trauma centre with significant injuries to his head and internal organs

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after his vehicle was hit by a flying tire on Highway 400 south of Barrie.

An SUV was headed southbound Saturday when it lost a wheel near Highway 89. The wheel went airborne, crossed the highway and struck the victim’s northbound vehicle.

The man was airlifted to a trauma centre with significant injuries to his head and internal organs.

The driver of the SUV wasn’t injured in the crash and remained on scene to speak with police.

The southbound lanes of Highway 400 at Highway 89 reopened around 12:45 p.m. The northbound lanes reopened at 3 p.m.
