Ontario Fire Marshal investigating deadly Sunnidale Road fire

Victim was found on the main floor of the structure

The Ontario Fire Marshal is on scene of Monday afternoon’s deadly fire at a triplex in Barrie.

The blaze broke out at the residence on Sunnidale Road near the Highway 400 overpass.

Barrie Police spokesperson Peter Leon told Barrie 360 the victim is a 40-year-old Barrie woman. He could not comment further pending notification of next of kin.

Three other people were injured.

Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Derek Wilson said the cause of the fire, whether it was suspicious in nature and if there were working smoke alarms is part of the investigation.

He said firefighters entered the structure when they learned one person was unaccounted for and that individual was located on the main floor and removed from the scene.
