Queen’s Park is trying to improve the workplace culture at the Provincial Police in the wake of recent officer suicides.
A three-person panel has been tasked with carrying on an independent review of the OPP, also working with the newly appointed commissioner to improve the working lives of uniform and civilian members.
“Frontline OPP members in cities and towns across Ontario have raised concerns,” said Sylvia Jones, Solicitor General. “Ensuring the safety and well-being of our frontline staff is my top priority. OPP officers have our back. They deserve a government that has theirs.”
The panel will be made up of the following individuals:
- Douglas Cunningham – Former Associate Chief Justice of Ontario
- Murray Segal – Former Deputy Attorney General of Ontario
- David Cooke – Former Ontario MPP and Cabinet Minister.
The review has been given a budget capped at $500,000, while no timeline has been given.
