Police in Innisfil Make Swift Arrest Following Attempted Mugging

Barrie Police K9 Unit Came in As Backup

It took about a half an hour to track down a suspect after a violent robbery attempt in Alcona.

South Simcoe Police say an employee of a business on Innisfil Beach Road at 25th Sideroad was assaulted by a knife-wielding man who had hidden in the backroom after closing time. The suspect fled the building empty-handed, while the employee was not physically hurt.

With the help of the Barrie Police K9 unit, a suspect was found nearby and a knife recovered.

A 52-year-old man facing charges including Break and Enter, and Robbery With a Weapon.

Meanwhile, the South Simcoe Police Service gives the following advice if you are the victim of a robbery:

  • Do not resist
  • Remain calm and obey the robber’s commands
  • Try to get a good look at the robber so you can later provide a suspect description
  • Take note of any weapons involved
  • Note the robber’s direction of travel and if a vehicle is being used try to note the licence plate
  • After the robbery, call 9-1-1 immediately
