Public School Board Postponing Grade 9 Math Assessment

Simcoe County District School Board Delaying EQAO Testing For Now

As teachers’ unions and the province continue to go head-to-head, the local public school board has elected to delay EQAO testing for Grade Nine students.

“Due to the current provincial job action by members of Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) who would normally administer the assessment, the SCDSB feels there would not be adequate supervision or supports in place for students, especially those with special education needs.” reads a statement from the Simcoe County District School Board.

The EQAD testing was scheduled to take place at Simcoe County public high schools later this month, but the delaying of testing comes as Minister of Education Stephen Lecce says local school boards would make the decision on whether to proceed with testing or delay it. Minister Lecce says those students who do not take the Grade 9 Math Assessment in January would have to take the test in June, while the Simcoe County District School Board says it will wait for further direction from the Ministry with respect to make-up tests.
