Saying Goodbye To Single Use Utensils In Wasaga Beach

Council passed a resolution last month to ban single service utensils at municipal meetings

Wasaga Beach ditching single service food and drink utensils.

Acting on a recommendation that originated from the town’s Healthy Community Network, council passed a resolution in late June to ban single service utensils at municipal meetings.

Single use items not only cause a long-lasting impact on the environment, they present a financial burden to taxpayers for collection services, are often not recycled and as a result take up valuable space in local landfill sites. The committee thanks council for taking the stance it has. This sends an important environmental signal to everyone in our community.”

Mayor Nina Bifolchi said the ban represents a small gesture that over time can make a substantial difference.
