School bands toot their own horns after Musicfest Canada

11 school bands and ensembles steal the show at music competition

Yahoos and huzzahs for 11 Simcoe County District School Board bands and ensembles.

They won five gold and six silver medals last week at the MusicFest Canada Nationals, which brought together music students and teachers from across the country.

“The hard work and dedication that our students and staff have put into qualifying and preparing for this competition has been tremendous, and we are exceptionally proud of their accomplishments,” says Steve Blake, Director of Education. “Our Board has made music education a priority, and our students’ results at The Nationals are representative of that commitment.”

Medals were awarded to:

  • Worsley Elementary School Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Kodiak 5 Brass Ensemble – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Georgian Bay District Secondary School Intermediate Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Innisdale Secondary School Senior Concert Band – Gold, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Concert Choir – Silver, Choral/Vocal Jazz Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Kodiak Dollar – Silver, Concert Band Division
  • Bear Creek Secondary School Wind Ensemble – Silver, Concert Band Division
  • Innisdale Secondary School Junior Concert Band – Silver, Concert Band Division
  • Innisdale Secondary School Jazz Ensemble – Silver, Instrumental Jazz Division
  • Twin Lakes Secondary School Thunder Jazz – Silver, Instrumental Jazz Division
