SIU clears Barrie Police in concussion suffered by man in cell
Hit head on wall during scuffle with an officer
A Barrie Police officer has been cleared in the case of a man who suffered a concussion while in a police holding cell.
He was arrested last July on an outstanding warrant and was placed in a holding cell.
The officer thought the man might harm himself with the sweater he was wearing and asked him to take it off. When he didn’t, there was a scuffle during which the man struck his head against a wall.
The Special Investigations Unit has determined the officer used justifiable force under the circumstances.
