Ever wonder where all the debris from street sweeping goes?
The sand-covered streets of Barrie will be cleaned up after the winter and takes about 10 weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Barrie’s Director of Roads, Parks and Fleet Craig Morton discusses what’s done with what’s picked up.
Morton says the between eight and nine thousand metric tonnes of sand is used during the winter and crews end up collecting roughly four thousand tonnes in the Spring.
Morton says there have been some interesting pickups for the crews.
The city avoids more than $250,000 in costs by using recycled sand.
