Police seize drugs, counterfeit money in trafficking investigation; three Barrie men among charged

Three Barrie men are among six who were charged following search warrants in the city on Wednesday related to a drug trafficking investigation.

Orillia OPP Community Street Crime Unit says they received information in April that started the investigation.

Officers say they then obtained search warrants for multiple locations in Barrie.

Three searches were conducted by multiple OPP street crime units, along with the Barrie Police Service, today and six people were arrested and charged.

A 24-year-old Barrie man has been charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-opioid contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of Trafficking-cocaine CDSA 5(2)
  • Traffick in Schedule 1 substance- Cocaine CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance- opioid CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Possessing Counterfeit Money CC 450(b)
  • Failure to comply with release order CC 145(5)(a)

He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

A 26-year-old of no fixed address faces the following:

  • Traffick in Schedule 1 substance- cocaine CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking- opioid CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of proceed of property obtained by crime over $5000 CC 354(1)(a)

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

A 25-year-old Windsor woman is up on:

  • Traffick in Schedule 1 substance- cocaine CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking- opioid CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of proceed of property obtained by crime over $5000 CC 354(1)(a)

She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

A 33-year-old Orillia man was charged with:

  • Traffick in schedule 1 substance- Methamphetamines CDSA 5(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance- Methamphetamine CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 CC 354(1)(a)

He was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

Charges on a 35-year-old Barrie man include:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking- cocaine CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of Schedule 1 substances for the purpose of trafficking- opioid CDSA 5(2)
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose CC 88

He was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

OPP say a 36-year-old Barrie man was also arrested on unrelated, outstanding charges, and was held pending a bail hearing.

The following was seized by police:

  • 959 grams of cocaine
  • 175 grams of fentanyl
  • 10 oxycodone pills
  • 2.7 grams of methamphetamine
  • $ 30,000 in counterfeit Canadian currency
  • $7,500 in Canadian currency
  • Replica firearm
  • Digital scales and drug packaging materials
  • Cellular devices
