Barrie gets funding to help expand small businesses online profile

$50 thousand for Digital Service Squad to assist local businesses

A cash injection is on its way to help local Barrie businesses expand their online presence.

The City of Barrie, with support from the Downtown Barrie Business Association (BIA), has received a $50,000 grant from Digital Main Street Ontario to go towards a Digital Service Squad.

The service squad will assist businesses with developing a “Google My Business” profile, enhance their social media presence, provide support for a basic website and e-commerce set-up.

Squads will also assist qualified small businesses through the application process for a $2,500 Digital Transformation Grant.

That grant includes an online assessment, online training modules, and the development of a Digital Transformation Plan.

Director of Economic and Creative Development at the City of Barrie Stephannie Schlichter says extending the program will assist the local business community to recover and grow amidst the pandemic.

The Ontario BIA Association administers the DMS grant program for Ontario’s main street small business.
