Open Air Dunlop begins this weekend in Barrie in conjunction with Culture Days

Residents invited to take in the new streetscape downtown

You’ll have plenty of breathing room along Barrie’s Dunlop Street this fall.

The downtown roadway will be pedestrianized Saturday, September 26 and for the three Saturdays after that. This will give residents a chance to take in the newly redesigned streetscape downtown, in a project City Hall is calling Open Air Dunlop.

The program will run alongside the city’s Culture Days. Normally a weekend affair, this year’s Culture Days will run for four weeks, with a mix of online and in-person activities and events planned. It includes the Artists in Biz program that pairs local artists with businesses to feature their work publicly.

Sections of Dunlop Street have been closed since August of 2019 for a revitalization project costing around $9.2 million. The entire project was expected to wrap up in October of this year but was finished early. An increase in the available workforce due to the pandemic helped lead to an advanced construction schedule.
