16-year-old boy charged with sexual assault after alleged attack along Barrie waterfront trail

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with sexual assault after an adult female was allegedly sexually assaulted in the area of the north shoreline of Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie.

Numerous first responders converged on Kempenfelt Drive near Vancouver Street shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

"Due to the ongoing and sensitive nature of this investigation, details surrounding the arrest and incident that took place will not be disclosed," police said in a news release.

Along with the sexual assault offence, the teen has also been charged with failing to comply with a release order, other than to attend court.

He has a bail hearing on Thursday.

Police added that the incident under investigation is isolated in nature and said there is no threat to public safety.

"The accused was arrested within 8 minutes of the call being received," according to the police news release.

Police wish to thank members of the community who contacted them to report what they had seen and cooperated by remaining on scene and assisting with the investigation.
