Cornell says a big part of his job is to bring the County Council together, “we have had a fairly significant with fifteen new players coming to the table. Our strategic plan will help the transition.”
Cornell says the County faces a significant health challenge dealing with the current opioid crisis. “Fortunately we have a very strong public health unit to educate the public and County Council on that,” said Cornell.
Asked if there’s any concern about the size of council and if it needs to be addresses during this term, considering what happened in Toronto with the Doug Ford PC Government slashing 22 seats?

Cornell said they need to begin a very serious discussion about that. “I would not be surprised to see the Province starting to look at the size of regional and county governments. We as a council recognize that and I would look for us to strike a governance committee to start looking at what our government structure ideally should look like and I would suggest phasing that in for the next term of County Council.

County Council also elected Clearview Deputy Mayor Barry Burton as Deputy Warden. Burton is an independent business owner and has been Deputy Mayor of Clearview since 2014.
