Two dogs were rescued from a Springwater Township home following a fire around 6:30 Tuesday morning.

According to a media release from Springwater, firefighters arrived at the house on Flos Road 4 West and found the garage fully engulfed with flames rapidly spreading to the residence. Crews were met by one person on the road who was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

During the rescue of the dogs, a firefighter and an Ontario Provincial Police officer sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene by County of Simcoe paramedics.

As a result of the injuries, the office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been contacted.

"There were working smoke alarms in the residence," according to the media release.

The fire is under investigation, though it is not considered suspicious. Damage is estimated at $400,000.
