$200,000 boat destroyed by fire at marina in Midland

Blaze not considered suspicious

Officials say a boat is a total loss after catching fire at a Midland marina.

Fire crews were called to Marina Park Avenue at around 1 p.m. Wednesday with reports of a boat fire. They arrived at Pier A of the Bayport Marina to find a 40-foot Sea Ray fully engulfed by flames.

The fire was knocked down, partly due to efforts of Midland Fire Services, partly as the vessel sank due to damage caused by flames. The $200,000 craft is considered a loss.

The fire is not considered suspicious. The Ministry of the Environment was called to assess the impact the fire had on the surrounding waters.
