Police have laid charges against a man, including impaired driving by drug, after a two-vehicle collision near Veteran's Drive and Mapleview Drive West in Barrie.

Officers responded to the area around 5 p.m. Monday, where emergency crews determined that all involved parties, including a two-year-old, did not sustain serious injuries.

During the investigation, police say officers spotted suspected cannabis in one of the vehicles, and noted the driver displayed signs of impairment, including unsteadiness, difficulty maintaining balance, red eyes, and a strong odour of cannabis.

Authorities say he was taken to police headquarters, where a drug recognition expert evaluation was conducted, and it was determined the driver's ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by drug.

A 33-year-old was also charged with driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available, in addition to the impaired driving charged.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
