South Simcoe Police have arrested and charged a 14-year-old youth after a "targeted and disturbing" assault on a disabled person from Bradford West Gwillimbury.
The youth turned themself in on Tuesday after video of the violent assault had circulated online, showing the victim being led to a secluded area where they were the subject of repeated acts of violence.
They are facing multiple counts of assault, and has been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for a later date.
Police say they have been actively investigating a series of incidents over the last few weeks against the victim on social media in which they were deliberately targeted, harassed, and bullied by a group of youths.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests and charges may follow, according to police.
Police say parents and guardians should speak to their children about responsible social media use and consequences that can result from violent and bullying behaviour.
