OPP add 63 charges against woman in theft and fraud investigation originating at OSMH

Provincial police have laid 63 additional charges against a related to a theft and fraud investigation at multiple Ontario hospitals, including Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

Orillia OPP added the additional charges after the 34-year-old woman from Burlington was originally charged with making a false statement in writing and disobeying a court order.

Police say the investigation was prompted by several complaints of theft and fraud from patients and staff within OSMH. They determined that the suspicious activity at that hospital between April 2026 and March 2026.

Investigators determined five hospitals were victimized by the women, spanning from February 2024 to September 2026.

The hospitals included Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, and St. Joseph's Health Centre and West Park Health Care Centre in Toronto.

Eventually, police executed multiple search warrants and seized significant amounts of property including furniture and clothing.

In total, the woman has been charged with 34 counts of fraud under $5000, 13 counts of theft under $5,000, seven counts of disobeying a court order, four counts of criminal breach of trust, two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and one count each of theft over $5,000 and personation with intent.

The Orillia OPP Major Crime Unit is continuing the investigation, believing there may be additional victims who were patients, visitors or staff members in various units of the affected hospitals.

Anyone who was a patient or staff member at OSMH between April 2025 and March 2026 is being asked to review their credit card statements and report any suspected theft or fraudulent activity to police.
