Southern Georgian Bay OPP are investigating a blaze that occurred at a residence on Saturday night in Penetanguishene.

Around 11 p.m., emergency services were dispatched after reports of a structure fire on Champlain road. Upon arrival, police say the residence was fully engulfed in flames and fire crews from Tiny, Penetanguishene, and Midland were already on scene working to extinguish it.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control, and the residence sustained extensive damage, according to police.

The detachment's crime unit is continuing the investigation while the Ontario Fire Marshal's (OFM) Office has been notified and will be attending to assist with determining the cause of the fire.

The scene has been secured and is still under investigation.
