The Georgian College Auto Show rolls back onto the Barrie campus this weekend, bringing one of the region’s largest community events - and it’s run entirely by students from the Automotive Business School of Canada.

For show chair Amanda Caldeira, this year’s event is about more than shiny new vehicles. It’s about connection.

“Honestly, it brings all the community together,” she told Barrie 360. “Anyone who wants to come not only to get [a] gander at all the vehicles, but just see what the industry is doing.

A relaxed way to explore the newest vehicles

The show features more than 20 manufacturers, showcasing the latest models, technology, and trends in the automotive world. Unlike a dealership visit, Caldeira says the atmosphere is intentionally low‑pressure.

“It’s totally student-run, but it's also a non‑selling show, there's no pressure from anyone wanting to slide a paper across the table.”

Visitors can compare vehicles from multiple OEMs, ask questions, and even take part in test drives, including EVs, hybrids, and gas models.

A major student effort - and a launchpad for careers

More than 150 students are involved in running the event, from logistics to marketing to on‑site operations.

Manufacturers assist during setup and teardown, but once the gates open, “throughout the show, it's all the students,” Calderia said.

For many, including Caldeira, the show is a stepping stone into the industry. She hopes to start her career in a dealership after graduation, ideally working her way into management.

A big weekend for families

Parents looking for an easy day out will find plenty to keep kids busy. The show includes:

  • Kids’ zone with inflatable obstacle courses
  • Yamaha dirt bike rides for young riders
  • Dog shows throughout the weekend
  • Ice cream trucks and food vendors
  • Interactive trivia “Roadster Award” challenge with prizes
  • Porsche drift track rides with a professional driver

Caldeira says the goal is to make the event welcoming for everyone: “Kids can ride around and have some fun themselves - kind of like their own little shopping adventure.”

New this year: The Revenue Refresh Lounge

A redesigned food‑truck courtyard gives visitors a place to sit, recharge, and plan their next stops.

“We can just take a break, sit down, relax, eat some food, and enjoy the atmosphere,” Caldeira said.
