Barrie Man Faces Multiple Charges After Police Recover Stolen SUV in York Region

A 23-year-old Barrie man is facing multiple charges after York Regional Police recovered a stolen vehicle in Aurora.

Police say an officer received an alert from an Automated Licence Plate Recognition system while on patrol near Yonge Street and Elm Grove Avenue on Thursday. The alert identified a grey Ford Edge that had been reported stolen.

Officers monitored the vehicle while additional units, including York Regional Police Air Support and Canine Units, moved in to assist.

The suspect was arrested near St. John's Sideroad and Industrial Parkway South.

The accused has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation, two counts of breaching probation, and three counts of operating a conveyance while prohibited.

Police say the Ford Edge had been reported stolen in Barrie on Wednesday.
