Human remains found in Barrie park identified

Barrie Police say human remains found in Berczy Park have been identified as 50-year-old Jamie Goudreault.

Police say the death is being investigated as a homicide. They say it's too early to determine the cause of death.

Investigators add that the victim, who is from Barrie, was known to police and went by the nickname 'Bones.'

"He would routinely panhandle at the Highway 400 off-ramp at Bayfield Street and the Essa Road on-ramp at Fairview Road," police said in a news release on Thursday.

Police have said the remains were located in the downtown area park by a worker last Friday afternoon.

The park, which is accessed off of Berczy Street and Peel Street, was closed for several days during the police investigation but has since reopened.

 Police are appealing to the public for any information on the victim's last known movements, contacts, activities in recent months.

Anyone with information, video surveillance footage, or dash camera footage from the area during the above timeline is asked to contact investigators at 705-725-7025 ext. 2160.
