Two ice hockey players from Barrie and Simcoe County will be patiently waiting this week for a call of a lifetime.
The PWHL Draft will be held on Wednesday at the Fox Theater in Detroit, with a total of 236 eligible players having declared—the largest talent pool of prospective players since the inaugural season.
Of those, 127 are forwards, 68 are defenders, and 40 are goalies.
Over half of the players that declared are from the NCAA, which the league typically draws from the most. Only two U Sports players have been drafted across the PWHL's first three drafts.
Vancouver holds the first selection, followed by Seattle, New York, and Toronto. As of June 2, the league has not outlined the order beyond that.
With four expansion teams in Detroit; San Jose, Calif.; Hamilton; and Las Vegas bringing the league to eight member clubs, more top talent will likely have a chance to play in the league.

While it may be unlikely their names will be called, here are two local players that teams will consider ahead of Wednesday's selections:
CALLI HOGARTH
Coming out of Quinnipiac (NCAA Division I, ECAC), goalie Calli Hogarth spent just her year as a Bobcat backing up teammate Felicia Frank.
The then-21-year-old appeared in just two games (one start), making eight saves on 10 shots. during a year in which Quinnipiac won the ECAC for the first time since 2016, but lost in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals.
However, her statistical highlights came in the prior three years before she transferred from Merrimack (NCAA Division I, Hockey East). There, she appeared in 75 games between the 2022-23 and 2024-25 seasons.
As a Warrior, she put up a 16-47-7 overall record with a 2.77 goals against average and a .908 save percentage for one of the worst performing teams in the conference. Hogarth also put up five shutouts during that period, including in her first collegiate start.
She played over 2,100 minutes during a workhorse 2023-24 season in which she put up career-best marks with a 2.74 goals against average and 10 wins along with a .908 save percentage.
Prior to college, Hogarth played high school ice hockey at Innisdale, where she also played basketball and competed in 100 metre hurdles at an OFSSA meet. She was also a product of the Barrie Jr. Sharks program.
TEGHAN MACRAE
All while managing a demanding major in neuroscience, Cookstown's Teghan MacRae became a key piece of Guelph's women's ice hockey program through her five-year collegiate career.
The defender was part of the Gryphons' leadership group in her final season helping lead the team to an OUA championship, including a series-clinching goal in Game 3 of the OUA quarterfinals against Waterloo.
Guelph eventually lost in the U Sports women's ice hockey championship semifinals to Concordia.
Through her time at Guelph, the 23-year-old put up six goals and 17 points in 113 regular season games.
