Around 1:40 a.m., an Orillia OPP officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Highway 11 northbound near Line 10 and notice a vehicle no rear lights illuminated.

During a subsequent traffic stop, police found cannabis in the vehicle, leading to a further search which yielded a loaded firearm, 13 rounds of ammunition, a knife, and several pill capsules of suspected hydromorphone.

All of the paraphernalia was seized.

A 28-year-old man from Oro-Medonte and a 26-year-old woman from London were arrested and are each facing a slew of charges.

The man is facing 10 charges relating to weapon, firearm, and ammunition possession as well as another charge for opioid possession. He was held for a bail hearing later in the day.

Meanwhile, the woman was booked on three charges related to being in the vehicle knowing there was a firearm and prohibited weapons inside, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, driving without a proper rear light, and three others relating to impaired driving and having substances readily available.

She has been released from custody with a future court date.
