This year marks the Grey and Simcoe Foresters 160th anniversary, celebrating more than a century and a half of military service.
The name might sound like it has something to do with trees. It doesn't.
The regiment has an important role within the Canadian Armed Forces, and this week we're finding out more about the people behind the name.
Who Are the Grey and Simcoe Foresters?
The Grey and Simcoe Foresters are a Canadian Army Reserve regiment with roots in both Simcoe and Grey counties.
The unit has been part of the local community for generations. Today, its members train and prepare to support the Canadian Armed Forces when needed.
That can include military training, domestic operations, and other assignments.
For local residents, the regiment is also a reminder that Canada's military isn't only made up of people serving full-time.
Reservists can live and work in their communities while also training as soldiers.
160 Years of Service
Reaching 160 years is a pretty remarkable milestone.
