Barrie Police have charged a man with public mischief after he claimed to have been stabbed.
Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police say they responded to a report of an assault in the area of Puget Street near Shanty Bay Road in the city's east end.
When officers arrived, they found a 25-year-old man with a stab wound to his leg.
He told police he had been assaulted and provided officers with a description of the suspect.
The man was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Members of the K9 and Forensic Identification Units joined several officers to assist with the investigation. About two hours later, police found a person matching the suspect description and took him into custody.
During the investigation, police say they determined there had been no assault and the man who reported it was responsible for his own injuries.
The person who was taken into custody was released unconditionally.
A 25-year-old from Barrie was charged with public mischief.
