Contractors will be implementing a full closure of Shanty Bay Road between Crestwood Drive and Penetanguishene Road starting Wednesday, August 19, 2026 to Friday, September 11, 2026. The closure is required to complete watermain installation on Shanty Bay Road.
Access for local traffic will be maintained throughout the closure. Emergency vehicles will be permitted through the closure for the duration of construction. Access for school buses will be facilitated as construction progresses toward completion. Other through traffic will follow the designated detour route.
Traffic will be detoured via Ridge Road West, 5 & 6 Sideroad, Penetanguishene Road, to Blake Street. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted signage.
This work is part of the City of Barrie’s 2026 watermain renewal program to replace aging water infrastructure and improve service reliability.
