A man has been charged after allegedly striking a pedestrian with his vehicle while they were crossing the street in Bradford West Gwillimbury on Tuesday.

South Simcoe Police say they responded to the scene at Holland Street West and West Park Avenue at 12:40 p.m. with other emergency services joining.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Honda minivan turning from West Park Avenue to onto Holland Street encroached into the pedestrian crosswalk and hit the crossing pedestrian while their signal to safely cross was active and operational.

The victim suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently brought to hospital.

The driver, a 37-year-old man from North York was charged with careless driving and has a court date scheduled for Nov. 10.
