The Town of New Tecumseth has reached a major milestone by introducing its first full-time fire crew.
Town officials say the move marks a significant step forward in the delivery of emergency services and is designed to strengthen public safety as the municipality continues to grow. The department is transitioning to a composite staffing model that combines full-time and other firefighters, with the goal of improving response times, enhancing daytime emergency coverage and increasing overall service capacity.
“This milestone reflects our Council's commitment to investing in public safety and preparing for the future needs of our growing community,” said Mayor Richard Norcross. “Welcoming New Tecumseth Fire Rescue's first full-time crew is a proud moment for our municipality and demonstrates our ongoing dedication to protecting residents, supporting our firefighters, and building a stronger, more resilient community for generations to come.”
The newly hired firefighters will operate out of Station 1 while construction of Station 4 are completed.
During that time, crew members will take part in emergency response operations, training and professional development opportunities, as well as community safety and public education initiatives across New Tecumseth.
The launch of the full-time crew is the result of years of planning, collaboration and strategic investment aimed at building a stronger and more resilient fire service.
