Barrie Police say a motorist they found sleeping in the driver's seat of a running vehicle blew nearly two and a half times the legal alcohol limit.
Officers responded on Friday to a report of a suspected impaired driver in the area of Peel and Rose streets on Sept. 24.
An officer found the man sleeping in the driver's seat with the engine running and made several attempts to wake him by knocking on the driver's side window.
Police say when the man eventually stirred and opened the door, officers detected a strong odour of alcohol and noticed the vehicle was still in drive.
The officer told the driver to put the vehicle in park and turn off the engine.
The man was arrested and taken to police headquarters, where it's alleged that breath tests showed he was nearly two and a half times the legal alcohol limit.
The 35-year-old from Essa Township faces two impaired driving charges.
His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
