Drivers in Barrie's south end will be able to travel along Mapleview Drive East by end-of-day (Oct. 8), with the roadway set to reopen to through traffic more than six weeks ahead of schedule.
However, motorists will need to adjust to permanent traffic changes at three side streets along the corridor.
Concrete centre medians have been installed at Royal Jubilee Drive/Lally Terrace and Chef Lane. Left-turns to and from Mapleview Drive East at those locations will no longer be permitted.
The city says the changes are intended to improve traffic flow and safety along the widened roadway as the area continues to grow.
While through traffic will be restored, construction work is not yet complete. Drivers should continue to expect temporary lane closures, lane restrictions and delays as crews finish the remaining phases of the project.

The Mapleview Drive East reconstruction project stretches from Yonge Street to Prince William Way and is part of the city's long-term transportation planning to accommodate growth through 2031.
The work included widening the roadway, upgrading intersections, constructing multi-use trails and installing new stormwater infrastructure.
City officials are encouraging motorists to stay alert in construction zones and watch for updated signage reflecting the new turning restrictions.
