Driver ends up in swamp; four nabbed for impaired: Southern Georgian Bay OPP

Southern Georgian Bay OPP arrested and charged four motorists for impaired operation, including one who ended up in a swamp.

Started on Tuesday, around 9:30 p.m. when officers received calls of a possible impaired driver passed out in the Village Square Mall parking lot in Penetanguishene.

After an investigation, a 40-year-old Tiny Township man faces the following:

  • Operation while impaired - drugs
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court (two counts)

Then on Thursday, around 3:45 p.m., police say an off-duty officer reported a possible impaired driver in the area of Concession Road 16 in Tiny Township.

OPP located the suspect vehicle in the driveway of a residence on Farlain Road.

A 41-year-old Barrie driver was charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court (two counts)

Around an hour later, OPP say they stopped a vehicle going well over the posted speed limit on Concession Road 16 East.

Police say they spoke to the driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation.

A 66-year-old Tiny Township man is up on:

  • Operation while impaired alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Speeding 1 - 49 km/h over posted limit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Finally, around 9:30 p.m., OPP say they were contacted regarding a vehicle down in a swamp area off the east side of Highway 400 at the northbound off-ramp to Highway 12, Tay Township.

After a brief investigation, police say a 65-year-old Caledon man was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

All four drivers have future court dates, as well, their driver's licenses suspended and vehicles impounded for various time frames.
