Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a person died following an arrest in Orillia.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers responded to an incident shortly after 6:45 Sunday evening and arrested an individual.

Police say the person was taken to the Orillia OPP detachment, where they went into medical distress and were later pronounced dead.

The OPP notified the SIU, which has invoked its mandate.

They cannot provide any further information because of the SIU investigation.
