Empower Simcoe launches online platform connecting families with support providers

People in Simcoe County looking for developmental supports now have a new online tool designed to make finding help easier.

Empower Simcoe has launched Pathway to Support, a free online platform that connects individuals and families directly with Independent Direct Support Providers (IDSPs). The service is being administered locally through a partnership between Empower Simcoe and Catulpa Community Support Services.

According to Empower Simcoe, the platform is intended to give individuals and families more choice and flexibility when searching for supports that align with their personal goals, schedules, and preferences.

Independent Direct Support Providers are community members who offer individualized assistance based on a person's specific needs. Supports can include helping people develop life skills, build independence, participate in community activities, and provide respite for caregivers.

“Pathway to Support gives people and families greater choice, flexibility and control in finding the support that’s right for them, while creating meaningful connections with independent providers in their community,” says Empower Simcoe President and CEO Dr. Claudine Cousins.

The online platform allows users to search and review provider profiles, explore providers' experience and availability, and connect securely with potential support workers. Families can also save search preferences, bookmark profiles, and post support requests to receive responses from interested providers.

Once a connection is made, individuals and families work directly with their chosen provider to discuss supports, responsibilities, availability, and rates.

Empower Simcoe says the initiative is designed to make it easier for people and families in the developmental services sector to find personalized support while encouraging stronger community connections between those seeking services and independent providers.
