It's time for the men of Simcoe County to put their best foot forward.
The Women & Children's Shelter of Barrie is gearing up for its 14th annual "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes " fundraiser, which goes towards helping the shelter support women fleeing abusive relationships.
Community Development Manager Deb James says the event takes a fun spin on a serious issue by asking men to walk a mile in high heels.
"We're aiming towards men because we want them to understand what it might be like for a woman to pick up in the middle of the night, grab her kids, grab whatever she's got, and leave an abusive relationship," James explains.
"And as much as it's a good event and raises money, it's also a great educational piece for us to walk that mile literally."
If you are considering joining but need a pair of size 12 or 13 pumps, there's nothing to worry about, as they have enough extras to borrow.

James adds that even though high heels are the theme, they aren't necessary.
"We don't want anybody to break an ankle, so if you wish to come down in your flats, we totally get it. What is important is that you come down to take part."
This year's fundraising goal is $70 thousand to help keep up with higher costs.
"Keeping everybody safe at the shelter costs a lot of money," James says.
"We have 27 beds, and every night, we're over-capacity, so it's more like 30 to 35 women and children staying there. Our grocery bill per week is $800 to $1,000."
People can help by walking, sponsoring someone who is, donating or putting a team together.
"We understand that it's hard for many people right now, so anything you can do or help is appreciated," James adds.
This year's "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes" event takes place on September 9 at Heritage Park, Downtown Barrie, beginning at 11 a.m.
