He is no stranger to Southern Georgian Bay OPP.
A 35-year old Christian Island man is up on numerous charges after a crime spree in Midland.
On Sept. 22 around 5 p.m., a Midland-area scrap metal yard reported suspicious circumstances surrounding a black Toyota that was part of a business transaction.
Police say the vehicle offered for sale was lacking legal paperwork and had two different licence plates attached.
The Christian Island man was charged with:
- trafficking in property obtained by crime
- possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
He was then arrested on a warrant for outstanding charges resulting from other investigations including:
- fail to comply with probation (two counts)
- use of stolen credit card
- possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
A second person linked to the attempt business transaction was charged with:
- trafficking in property obtained by crime
- possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 - in Canada
Then on Sept. 27, just before 4:30 p.m., an Ontario Works employee reported the theft of his work computer from his Highway 93 office.
The same 35-year-old suspect was arrested on Oct. 6 and charged with the following:
- theft under $5000
- possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- fail to comply with probation order
The accused was given a Nov. 16 court date.
Police were then contacted by a Midland resident on Oct. 11 who reported the theft of a wallet containing various credit cards.
The caller said the wallet was removed from a vehicle parked on Fifth Street and there were now transactions occurring on the accounts including at an online casino, and the cards were also being used at area retailers.
The next day, in response to a suspicious person call, police arrested the same Christian Island man and charged him with:
- possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- use of a credit card
He was released and given a court date of Nov. 23.
The same day, on Oct. 12, staff at the Canadian Tire gas bar on County Road 93 alerted police about an attempted break and enter to the gas bar retail store.
Once again, the Christian Island man was arrested and charged with:
- mischief, destroys or damages property
He was released and ordered to appear in court on Nov 23.
But there was more to come that day.
A Midland resident told police his parked vehicle had been broken into during the overnight and his credit cards and identification were missing.
During a search as part of a separate investigation, the same Christian Island suspect was found to be in possession of the callers credit cards and was charged with:
- possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The accused was released and given another Nov. 23 court date.
On Oct. 13, police received a call from a Midland resident who reported a suspicious person.
Officers were unable to locate the person but learned that a child's bike had been removed from a yard.
Later that day, police saw a person wearing a heavy long winter coat on a warm day who was holding a small bicycle. He was arrested inside the washroom of a Tim Hortons restaurant at Midland Avenue and Bay Street. Police allege the suspect was in possession of crack cocaine, pink fentanyl and crystal meth.
The same Christian Island man was charged with:
- obstruct police
- theft under $5,000
- possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- possession of methamphetamine
- possession of opioid (other than heroin)
- possession of cocaine
The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear in court at a later date.
