(UPDATE) Credit union robbery suspects were armed with guns, fled in a Mercedes: Barrie police

Barrie police say two males wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a credit union on Alliance Boulevard burst into the business brandishing firearms and demanded cash.

Police were alerted about the robbery at the Ontario Educational Credit Union around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

"After obtaining a significant amount of Canadian and American currency, the suspects fled in what is described as a white, newer model 4-door Mercedes Benz. It is believed that this vehicle is the same vehicle that the suspects arrived in prior to the robbery and that it was parked out front while the robbery took place," police said in a news release on Friday morning.

While their faces were covered, police say the suspects are both believed to be in their 20s and spoke with what has been described as a Jamaican accent.

The first suspect is described as being just under 6’ in height, with a slim build and was wearing a dark top and gray colored track pants. The second suspect was shorter than suspect number one, and also had a slim build and wore dark clothing that included black track pants.

"Investigators from the Barrie Police Criminal Investigation Division spent yesterday afternoon looking at seized video surveillance from the area and have determined that the involved motor vehicle turned left from Alliance Blvd. onto Bell Farm Rd. and was last seen headed towards Duckworth St," police stated in the news release.

Anyone with information or anyone who many have dash camera video, was travelling on Bell Farm Rd. between 10:50 – 11:00 a.m. and may have captured an image of a newer model Mercedes Benz is asked to please contact the lead investigator Sgt. Armstrong at 705-725-7025, extension 2586. If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
