Three suspects were apprehended following an armed robbery in downtown Collingwood Monday afternoon.

Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP say the incident happened around 3:20 p.m.

"Three suspects were observed going into a jewelry store discharging a firearm in the process and a short time later were observed fleeing the scene in a dark-coloured SUV," OPP stated in a release on Tuesday. "None of the store employees of the store were physically injured in the incident."

Officers say they received a description of the suspect vehicle, which had been reported stolen by Toronto police, and the direction it was travelling.

OPP then located the abandoned SUV in a field near County Road 124 and the 30/31 Sideroad just south of Nottawa.

"At that point, the ground search began with assistance from members of the Huronia West OPP, OPP Canine, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) as well as OPP Aviation Services and after several hours, all three suspects were apprehended without incident."

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Collingwood OPP at 1-705-445-4321, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com/.
