Orillia OPP arrested and charged a 24-year-old man in connection to multiple robberies in the city on Monday.
At about 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a robbery where they say a man entered a bank, told the teller he was armed with a weapon and then demanded cash. Police canvassed the area but did not locate the suspect.
Then around 5:30 p.m., OPP were notified of another robbery at a Memorial Ave business.
"Police immediately attended the area, setting up containment which ultimately led to the arrest of the male party," officers said in a release.
An Orillia man was charged with:
- Robbery with Violence contrary to section 344 (a)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada x 2
But, more details surfaced after officers got a call later at 8:00 p.m.
"Orillia OPP received further information from a different Memorial Ave business that earlier in the evening an unknown male party attended their location, threatened violence and demanded cash," police said.
"Officers attended and confirmed the identity of the involved male to be the same male who was arrested."
The accused faces an added charge:
- Robbery with Violence contrary to section 344 (a)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
